I am NOT a believer in Harold Camping's movement that Judgment Day is happening in just 2 days (May 21, 2011). Scripture clearly speaks to the fact no man will have that knowledge, and I do not believe the bible is filled with codes that point us to this day.Over the past few weeks, it seems like this movement has caught a little more steam and attention. As I drove to Texas this week, I saw at least 4 billboards advertising this day. My reactions have been to laugh it off, dismiss it as false prophecy, and to shake my head at the waste of resources. However, I started thinking this morning, what if we could learn something from Harold Camping's movement?
I'm not talking about believing in things that are contrary to scripture. However, what if we treated each day as if tomorrow were Judgment Day? Would we post billboards all over the country? Would we start blogs, hand out literature, and make Youtube videos warning people that Christ could come at any minute? I know that this is already done to some degree, but honestly how many of us Christians are treating each day with gospel urgency? Although tragically misguided and misleading, at least Camping has a spirit of urgency.
We have no idea when Christ will return, and the bible does not guarantee a date. If we believe this Christians, I think we should live with a greater sense of urgency than the people of Family Radio Worldwide. After all, what if Judgment Day was tomorrow? What if it was today? How different would your steps be?
