2013 Burritos Bests

Written By Jeff Tilden on Thursday, January 2, 2014 | 3:19 PM

Happy 2014, everyone!  Its time for me to pick up on a tradition that I left hanging last year and introduce my Burritos Best for 2013!  Basically, I pick and choose from the things that impacted me over the past year and share them with you.  Obviously, this is all my opinion so don't get your feelings hurt if I overlook your faves.  In fact, I would love for you to share your favorites with me!  Maybe I'll toss an honorary golden burrito your way!

M83-Hurry Up, We're Dreaming

This album is actually about a year and a half old.  However, I was first introduced to these guys after hearing their music on the Tom Cruise movie, Oblivion.  In fact, their musical efforts have notched them an Oscar nomination for the soundtrack!  If you like epic, synth-pop, ambient indie rock, these guys may be right up your alley!

Yes, your eyes do not deceive you!  I picked a Disney animated movie as the best movie.  I have a few reasons why.  1. 2012 was such a great year for movies, that it has been a challenge finding a movie this year that even competes in the same class as Argo, Life of Pi, or The Dark Knight Rises.  2.  I watch most of my movies after they come out on Redbox.  I only see about 7-8 movies in the theater a year.  That said, one of the Fall and Winter movies could end up being my favorite of 2013.  3.  Frozen really was that good!  The message of the movie is absolutely beautiful and dare I say it, scriptural!  It was neat seeing a Disney Princess movie that overshadowed the cliche love story with something other than the postmodern trend empowerment (i.e. Brave).  The message was wonderful and the movie was excellent!

Boston Redsox Winning the World Series

I can't say it was my favorite baseball postseason ever (2004 has that one sealed in the book).  However, it was the best World Series I've ever watched as a fan of the Redsox, despite the erroneous obstruction call in Game 3!  And the postseason run was pretty great itself!

Follow Me-David Platt

An outstanding read for a believer!  The tagline says it all, "A Call to Die.  A Call to Live.".  Platt finds a way of taking scriptural truth and confronting the believer.  Yes, its tough at times.  However, its refreshing, honest, and shakes up the establishment!

Brooklyn Nine Nine

You can keep your reality TV shows, primetime dramas (aka "acceptable Soap Operas"), and your zombie fascinations.  Give me good old fashion comedic sitcoms!  This has been the show to replace The Office and keep me tame while I await the premiere of new Community episodes.  Andy Samberg is hilarious!

Jimmy Kimmel Worst Twerk Fail Ever

If you're like me, you'd rather eat your own vomit than look at or listen to Miley Cyrus.  And the Fox, we'll it was cute at first, but now I'm starting to build up an unnecessary hatred for a creature that I've always been indifferent about.  Jimmy Kimmel pulled off a classic viral video prank.....on the viewers of the viral video!  He was behind the staging of an epic twerk fail that really wasn't.  You have to see the whole story to appreciate the greatness of the video!

Your Grace Finds Me-Matt Redman

Thanks Matt Redman for still making great music about my Savior!  My faith hasn't totally run out on the Christian music industry, but I do feel like its at an all-time low.  I'm seriously praying for a rekindling of my passion for music and passion for Christ to find a common ground again!

Boston Strong

The cause for this event was horrendous.  However, the resolve, community, and love shown by a nation to a city that I personally hold near and dear to my heart was overwhelming.  The Sox winning the World Series on top of the response to the marathon bombing was icing on the cake!  I love seeing people come together.  I just wish it wouldn't take a tragedy to bring it about.

Baptizing my daughter, Karis.

I'm not sure if I've had many greater privileges than to get to help lead my daughter to Christ and then baptize her this year.  2013 was a "breather" year for my family.  It wasn't that it was uneventful, it was just a lot tamer than the last few years for us.  I'm thankful for that.  God allowed us to have full attention to beginning the process of discipleship for our daughter!  I love it!

That's all for now!  I look forward to what 2014 has in store!  Share your favorites from this past year with me.
